The wonderful black and white print "Asakusa Fukei, Taifu no ato no Okuyama" (Views of Asakusa, Okuyama after the Typoon) is by Unichi Hiratsuka (1985-1997). This print depicts a peaceful Okuyama after the typhoon. Around Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, Tokyo which has been called "Okuyama" since the mid-Edo period, this shopping street is located. Okuyama has been bustling with show houses and street performances.
Unichi Hiratsuka is well known as the Master of Black and White. The Japanese title, subtitle, and artist's block-signed "Hiratsuka Unichi" in Japanese on the right margin. The hand-signed 'Un-ichi Hiratsuka' and sheet number '20/30' on the bottom margin. The artist's red seal is in the lower right corner of the image. It comes with the original folder.
Unichi Hiratsuka is called the "father of the Sosaku Hanga" and one of the very famous artists of 21st-century Japanese art. He said, “Printing in black on white is often considered the first step of technique, but it is actually the final point. The most beautiful range of color is black and white”

Jakuchu Ito (1716-1800) was a well-known Japanese painter of the mid-Edo period. He studied Kano painting in Kyoto where he was born as the son of a rich merchant. He became a famous artist as a painter and printmaker of exotic birds, flowers, and Buddhist subjects. The artists' realistic painting style became a source of inspiration for late 19th and early 20th-century kacho-e (flowers and birds) prints and paintings.

According to the Watanabe publisher, In conjunction with the Daihei Print Shop, Ryogoku, this artist made bird and flower designs for color prints under the name "Koson". The wonderful Western-style woodblock print "Bara" (Roses) is by Sotaro Yasui (1888-1955). Rarely seen offered for sale. Printed in Showa 9 nen (1934). Published by Kyuryudo. Publisher name on the lower left margin and edition number on the bottom margin. Roses are a very famous and popular subject of his artworks. This old print is extremely rare and desirable. The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo has a copy of this print.
Sotaro Yasui was one of the Japanese famous Western-style painters/artists. In the 1930s, Kyuryudo publisher released several woodblock prints by Sotaro Yasui. In 1936, Kiyoshi Saito was inspired by Yasui's woodblock prints, especially "Girl in New Year Clothes" and started making woodblock prints while being self-taught. Sotaro Yasui had a strong influence on Kiyoshi Saito who later became the worldwide famous artist.
